Users’ Forum • How likely are smaller GUI improvements?

Wesnoth is fairly old and still active.

The GUI is fine in general, in my opinion, but it also feels a little bit outdated
at times. I am not complaining as such, mind you; I don't really mind. But what
I am also thinking ... how likely is it to have smaller GUI improvements for
wesnoth?

For instance, the buttons - perhaps they could be changed or tweaked if a user
wants to e. g. via custom CSS rules such as ~/wesnoth/theme.css or something
like that if support for CSS would be possible. An outer black border around buttons;
an upon-mouse-hover event change the colour a bit (e. g. lighten the hue) and so
forth - many things we know from HTML + CSS + JavaScript. But this is not the
only example. Some of the unit information for instance; a small scrolling widget
could be used. I think right now if we click on the right bottom pane, on some
ability, if there are too many abilities we can not scroll to them. How difficult
would it be to add scrolling support there? I have no idea; I assume it is
possible in SDL but perhaps it is hard.

We also had wesnoth-on-godot but this seems to have run out of steam. Perhaps
if wesnoth is super-modular it could be used on many different engines at the
same time. Anyway.

My primary question here is: how likely is it that we can see GUI improvements
for wesnoth? Mostly smaller ones. Are there any devs working on that? If so
which work is done here?

Note that wesnoth in the past also improved the GUI, such as that reddish attack
icon or so. I noticed this a few years ago and I am pretty certain that the original
releases did not have that in early 2006 or something like that (hard to remember
off of the top of my head).
